Alliance Française de Lusaka celebrates September Literacy Month in style!

On a crisp September evening, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as art lovers and literacy advocates gathered for the highly anticipated September Literacy Month Celebration Art Exhibition and Fundraiser. The event, which sought to raise awareness and funds for literacy initiatives, began promptly at 18:30 with attendees being warmly welcomed by Alice Mwape, Librarian at the Alliance Francaise de Lusaka after a bried registration process. The energy in the space was palpable as participants mingled and prepared for an evening of culture, education, and philanthropy.

At 18:50, Armel led a captivating Gallery Tour, guiding guests through an array of artworks that beautifully merged the themes of literacy and culture. The tour highlighted pieces that emphasized the transformative power of reading and education, setting the tone for the evening’s theme.

By 19:25, the crowd gathered in the main hall for the official Introductions, facilitated by the Moderators, Andrew-Knox Kaniki, and Alice Mwape. Their warm words of welcome paved the way for the administration to deliver the Welcome Remarks at 19:35, emphasizing the significance of the event and the cause it supported, by Monique Orsini, Courses Director.

As the clock struck 19:50, the Moderator took center stage to present a thought-provoking slide show on the Importance of Literacy, as depicted by UNESCO. The presentation highlighted global literacy challenges and successes, sparking reflection among the audience. Following this, Dr. Samson Kantini, UNESCO’s Senior Programme Officer for Culture, delivered poignant remarks at 20:00, underscoring the critical role of literacy in cultural preservation and societal development.

The night took a lively turn at 20:10 with the Fundraiser Quiz, energetically hosted by Alice. Attendees eagerly participated, showcasing their knowledge on various topics while contributing to the fundraiser. Laughter and applause filled the room as prizes were awarded to the top performers.

At 20:40, Katharina Wuppinger, Chief of Education at UNICEF, delivered insightful remarks on UNICEF’s efforts in promoting literacy worldwide, further inspiring the crowd.

A Networking Health Break followed, allowing guests to enjoy refreshments while engaging in a Language Exchange Session, moderated by the event’s host. This unique activity encouraged participants to explore different languages, fostering a sense of global community.

As the evening drew to a close, Alice returned to the stage at 21:05 to deliver the Closing Remarks, thanking everyone for their participation and support. The night ended on a high note, with guests leaving inspired and motivated to contribute to the literacy cause.
